On August 6th, our European roadshow made its third stop at IMDEA Water, a globally renowned research institute, IMDEA participated in last year’s edition of the GPID and was one of the 32 shortlisted candidates, thanks to their work on membrane technologies and microbial electrochemical desalination cells.
This year, they continue to innovate with projects that integrate renewable energy, enhance water reuse, and address emerging contaminants in urban wastewater. During our visit, we had the opportunity to learn about several key projects, including:
- The MIDES Project: Led by Dr. Juan Manuel Ortiz Díaz-Guerra, this project focuses on wastewater treatment through microbial electrochemical technologies.
- Research on Membrane Technologies: Led by Dr. Junkal Landaburu Aguirre and Dr. Serena Molina Martínez, this project focuses on advanced membrane systems for efficient water treatment.
- The EMERGING Project: This project aims to tackle emerging contaminants in urban wastewaters while also promoting water reuse and sludge recycling.
IMDEA Water’s dedication to sustainable desalination and water management positions them as a compelling candidate for GPID 2024. We look forward to seeing what they will bring to this year’s edition!
