The GPID was founded in 2023 by SWCC (Saline Water Conversion Corporation), which has now become SWA (Saudi Water Authority).
SWA’s leadership in establishing this award underscores its commitment to environmental protection and technological advancement, inspiring a wave of ingenuity in the pursuit of water sustainability.
SWA is the world’s largest producer of desalinated water and operates 30 plants with six other mega-projects under construction, supplying water to 34 million people in the world’s fastest growing economy, Saudi Arabia. It produces more than 20 percent of the world’s supply of desalinated water from seawater, about 6.5 million m3 / d, in addition to more than 5 million m3 / d of treated water from dams-tanks-wells. It operates a transmission network of about 14,000 km of pipelines.
